I came to this world full of people among the athletes who attended the family gym, BunKay, of which I am now a co-owner.
I have always been in favor of following a healthy lifestyle, hence my love for yoga, meditation ... Furthermore, I like to learn constantly through reading. Self-help books, psychology, biographies of successful people ... accompany me on every journey / competition.
We took the opportunity to interview Ruben Lopez on YogaFit and find out how a professional athlete like Ruben integrates yoga and meditation into his daily life.
How many years have you been practicing yoga? 4 years
What kind or type of yoga do you do? Hatha Yoga
When and why did you start practicing it?
All the people around me who practiced me told me about the enormous benefits I was contributing to them in their everyday lives, as well as the calm and tranquility they felt in doing so. At that time I had already started meditating and decided to complete it with yoga sessions.
How many times a week do you do yoga?
Currently I don't take specific yoga classes, over the years I have designed a personal routine that allows me to connect with myself and feel the fluidity of my body and my breathing. I practice it every morning when I get up.
How has yoga changed your life?
Yoga makes me more aware of the present moment, I appreciate it more, I join it and I let myself go.
I have a greater awareness of my body. Sometimes we do not realize and we make many "efforts" (physical and mental) to carry out the current task: we use the muscles that are not necessary to use, block or shake the breath ...
What kind of food do you have?
I don't follow any particular aspect of the food, but I take care of everything I eat. I try that all foods are organic, I don't take dairy products and I use a very detailed and specific integration of natural origin (vegetable proteins, superfoods, roots ...)
What is your lifestyle like?
I was born surrounded by people who love sport, their philosophy, their values ... My parents founded the gym I am currently co-owner 34 years ago. Since I was born, I have learned by example, people with clear goals, they believe in themselves, who struggle every day to be a better version of themselves, to look at their food, rest ... it's not something that is from Yo Nuevo, it is and was my education from day one.
How do you describe yourself?
I am an active person, who likes to enjoy day by day, which is 100% dedicated to the current task and which transmits to all those around him, his passion for what he does.
I always see the situations of everyday life in a positive way, I try to do the best of everything, even if initially the setbacks we see as "failures" always bring us a lesson, learning that perhaps, when we do not understand, but Later we will discover its meaning and we will go towards a better version of ourselves.
Tell us how you will integrate meditation into your life. Meditation is part of my daily routine. I meditate every morning 15-20 minutes. Meditation focuses on what is really important, in my essence, on what I am, and I am attracted by the calm and renewed energy to face the day.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Although my training intensity does not allow me to travel a lot because I train six hours a day, 6 days a week, every time I have some free time, I try to travel with my partner, to discover new places and cultures, detaching from the routine.
